As winter beckons, Yang begins its decline, yielding to the growing strength of Yin. The sacral chakra is the chakra associated with the water element and winter: We will be working mainly with the "root & Sacral" chakras.
Water element yoga poses focus on releasing emotional energy and/or trauma, especially from the hip and pelvic area. We will use Jala Mudra (The Gesture of Water) The water element governs the kidneys (yin) and bladder (yang) energy systems. Water is considered the most nourishing and essential substance for life, and it stores much of a person's energy reserves. Rest is important in the winter because overwork and lack of sleep can deplete the water element and kidneys....
